Encoding using a ruler

While doing my mathematics assignments, I was using the ruler often to draw tangents to curves and drawing margins in which I could write down the learning points from each interesting maths questions. Then, it realized that in our day to day conversations, we normally use
-          English letters
-          Numbers
-          Symbols like $, . [$2, 2.50]
Which adds up to 26 + 10 + 2 = 38 unique symbols.

And 6C1 + 6C2 + 6C3 + 6C4 + 6C5 = 62 different combinations of lines which can be drawn from a ruler of consisting of 8 lines. This is sufficient to encode most of our daily messages and more.
